Entre la psicoterapia y la crítica manicomial en la España de la Transición: el papel de las publicaciones producidas en las instituciones psiquiátricas

Abstract

As revistas, os periódicos, boletins, entre outros, elaborados por pacientes internados em estabelecimentos psiquiátricos são uma fonte histórica pouco explorada que oferece pistas sobre o funcionamento destas instituições, sobre como decorria o dia-a-dia no seu interior e sobre as experiências vividas pelos pacientes e pessoal. Este artigo tem por objetivo analizar o papel de algumas destas publicações nos processos de mudança da assistência prestada em Espanha na fase final do franquismo e durante a época de transição. Algumas publicações editadas por hospitais psiquiátricos espanhóis foram analisadas parcialmente e em separado. Com base nestes trabalhos prévios, procurou-se obter uma visão de conjunto que nos permita identificar, claramente, duas grandes influências oriundas da psicoterapia institucional francesa e do movimento anti-institucional italiano. O artigo termina com uma breve reflexão sobre a importância historiográfica destas fontes para o estudo da história da psiquiatria do ponto de vista do paciente e do ativismo da saúde mental, tanto dos profissionais como dos diretamente envolvidos.

Les magazines, journaux, bulletins, etc., préparés par les patients dans les établissements psychiatriques constituent une source historique peu exploitée, qui offre des clés sur le fonctionnement des institutions, sur la vie quotidienne dans ces établissements et sur les expériences vécues des patients et du personnel. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser le rôle que certaines de ces publications ont eu dans les processus de changement des soins de santé dans l’Espagne de la fin du franquisme et de la Transition. Certaines revues publiées dans des hôpitaux psychiatriques espagnols ont été étudiées partiellement et séparément. Sur la base de ces travaux antérieurs, nous proposons une vision globale qui permet d’identifier clairement deux influences majeures provenant de la psychothérapie institutionnelle française et du mouvement anti- -institutionnel italien. Cet article s’achève par une brève réflexion sur l’importance historiographique de ces sources pour l’étude de l’histoire de la psychiatrie du point de vue du patient et de l’activisme dans la santé mentale, à la fois professionnel et personnel.

The magazines, newspapers, periodicals, etc. produced by patients inside psychiatric facilities constitute a historical source which has been little explored. They offer key insights into the functioning of the institutions, into daily life inside them and into the experiences of patients and staff. The aim of this article is to analyse the role which some of these publications played in the processes of change in care in Spain during the late Franco regime and the Transition. Some of the magazines published in Spanish psychiatric hospitals have been studied partially and individually. Based on this earlier work, we seek to provide an overview which makes it possible to clearly identify two major influences originating in French institutional psychotherapy and the Italian anti-institutional movement. The paper concludes with a brief assessment of the historiographical importance of these sources for the study of the history of psychiatry from the perspective of the patient and mental health activism, both professional and in the first person.
