Leonardo Bruni e o Trívio da Modernidade

Abstract

Leonardo Bruni’s Dialogi ad Petrum Histrum present us with a chain of possible ways of dealing with the like challenges of Modernity and Classicism. As beseems a well-crafted dialogue with several live characters, it confronts us with different ways of solving the conumdrum which are never wholy reducible to the author’s thoughts on the subject. In this article I will pay attention to those various suggestions (to wit, those of Coluccio Salutati, Niccolò Niccoli, and Roberto Russo) and try to weight them in such a way as to be able to draw some understanding even to our contemporary dealings with Classical Antiquity.
