Abstract: This essay intends to capture the birth of the modern concept of time, according to which the West was responsible for a universal sense of History, were Europe assumed a leading role and a state of decadence or stagnancy was attached to the remaining regions. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the imperial confrontation with the East consolidated this hierarchy and, in certain circles, the deciphering of Sanskrit breathed a new life into these taxonomies and theses that, in an explicitly racist manner, perceived the Caucasian race (more and more associated with the Aryan race) as the motor of History.
