Notas etimológicas: a origem de Domingo

Abstract

A etimologia e o significado da palavra Domingo provêm de características específicas do latim dos Cristãos. Assim aconteceu em outras línguas românicas, dependendo também do género da palavra latina dies. Este estudo procura explicar, assim, as diferentes evoluções linguísticas para este vocábulo em várias línguas românicas.

The etymology of the word “Domingo” (“Sunday” in Portuguese and Spanish) is derived from the Latin of the Christians, as it was also the case in other Romance languages, depending on the gender of the latin word dies. Therefore, this study tries to explain the different linguistic evolutions of this word in several Romance languages.
