Verdad, Vida y Camino del bodisatva: lectura inter-confesional del Sutra del Loto

Abstract

Tres ideas básicas del Sutra del Loto son: el Vehículo Único hacia la Verdad Última; la Vida Eterna del Buda Originario; y el Camino de la Compasión Universal de los Bodisatvas. Dejando para los estudios históricos la tarea de interpretación filológica y doctrinal de este texto clásico religioso, aquí intentaremos presentar la posibilidad de una lectura que lo descontextualice y recontextualice para destacar lo que nos hace pensar al leerlo en el marco de un diálogo intercultural e interconfesional. Tanto una filosofía o espiritualidad no teista como otra teista, sin renunciar cada una a su identidad, podrían encontrarse al enfocar algunos aspectos principales del Sutra del Loto como, por ejemplo, la verdad unificadora del universo y el auténtico aspecto de todas las realidades; la vida eterna del Buda Shakamuni y su presencia en la interioridad humana como naturaleza búdica o capacidad de alcanzar la iluminación; y en la acción compasiva universal de los bodisatvas.

Three basic ideas of the Lotus Sutra are: The One Vehicle to the Ultimate Truth; the Everlasting Life of the Original Buddha; and the Way of Mercifulness and Compassion of the Boddhisatvas. While leaving to the interreligious studies the task of historical and doctrinal interpretation of this classical religious text, we shall try a reading which might be shared – out of the Buddhist context –, in an intercultural or «inter-confesional» context. Both a theist and a non-theist spirituality could, without refusing each one’s identity, share some basic aspects of the approach to the unifying truth of the Universe and the real aspect of all things, to the Eternal Life of the Buddha Shakamuni and his presence within the buddha-nature of each human being, as well as to the merciful way of life of the boddhisatvas.
