O tratado pseudo-hipocrático sobre as carnes e o testemunho do Fédon

Abstract

O objetivo deste artigo é analisar a investigação da natureza que Sócrates desenvolve no trecho de Fédon 96b‑d. A descrição do texto platônico foi, por vezes, relacionada, em conteúdo e em estrutura, com o escrito médico Sobre as carnes. Quanto à estrutura, o tratado hipocrático começa explanando sobre a criação dos diversos órgãos do corpo humano através do calor e do frio. Ele detalha sobre os fenômenos da putrefação e da alimentação. Ele ressalta a importância de se obter provas sobre as sensações do corpo humano. Contudo, esta aproximação pode ser perigosa, pois não há provas suficientes para afirmar que Platão leu este tratado. Então, este ensaio se propõe aproximar as duas obras através de uma temática que lhes era comum: o impacto das filosofias naturais sobre a medicina e sobre os debates dos séculos V e IV a.C. O resultado deste exercício historiográfico e filológico é revelar que Platão estaria polemizando, direta ou indiretamente, com os hipocráticos.

This paper analyzes the relationship between the pseudo-Hippocratic treatise On flesh and the passage of the Phaedo 96b-d. The description of the Platonic text is very similar in content and structure, with the signed physician. The author starts explaining about the creation of the various organs of the human body through heat and cold. He details on the phenomena of putrefaction and food. He stresses the importance of obtaining evidence of the sensations of the body. Although it is not sufficient evidence to claim that Plato read this treaty, we can make a connection between the two works through a theme that was common to them, the impact of natural philosophy on medicine and on the discussions of the centuries V and IV BCE.
