Abstract: To save from forgetfulness what out of the human life is worthy of merit and of the experience of each people, not only the remarkable exploits that stand out, but also a whole of everyday life practices which are the individualization features of each community, constitutes Herodotus' purpose, defined in the proem to his Stories. The harmonious intercourse among peoples or the success that, through unavoidable crisis, changes the politicai chess of the known world depends first of ali on the intelligence put into the strategy to be applied, that must proceed from a deep knowledge and from respect towards any adversary to be faced. Haughtiness, that the exercise of power arises, with the tendentious contempt towards the unknown, has left by the experience of powerful men to be a sign of attention to the unhappy, sensible man. It was the traditional 0(oppoaúvT) that the Halicarnass Historian advertised as a lemma in the intercourse, which became tighter and tighter, between Greeks and Barbarians.
