Aspectos culturais na prática do aleitamento materno decorrentes da herança histórica do Brasil colônia

Abstract

Breastfeeding must be understood not only as a biological or instinctive function but also as a practice that is strongly influenced by historical, social, and cultural contexts. The purpose of this study was to examine certain cultural elements in breastfeeding practices that are a direct result of Brazil's historical heritage from the colonial period. Through a bibliographical study, it was possible to trace and identify the European influence, particularly Portuguese, on the construction of beliefs, taboos, and myths that directly affect breastfeeding attitudes and may influence a woman's decision to breastfeed or in the success of breastfeeding.

A amamentação deve ser compreendida não apenas como um ato biológico ou instintivo mas, também, como uma prática fortemente influenciada pelo contexto histórico, social e cultural. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar alguns aspectos culturais observados na prática do aleitamento materno decorrentes da herança histórica do Brasil colônia. A partir do estudo bibliográfico, foi possível identificar a influência europeia, especialmente a portuguesa, na formação de crenças, tabus e mitos que impactam, diretamente na atitude frente à amamentação e que interferem na decisão ou no sucesso de amamentar.
