Abstract: A História do nascimento do cinema mundial está directamente ligada à história de alguns cineastas que defenderam causas, com linguagem cinematográfica própria, através das suas formas de expressão na arte do real. Ao serviço de uma ideia e de boas intenções, debruçaram-se sabre a imagem do homem coma objecto central da sétima arte, mostrando a vida coma ela é, coma ela pode ser e como deveria ser. Todos os filmes que aqui falo fazem campanha, anunciando intenções. O ponto de vista da informação e da propaganda no cinema dos anos 1920/30 é difícil de definir, existem contudo obras que nos fazem ver, agir e compreender. Algumas destas obras provocaram um choque estético e intelectual no pensamento contemporâneo vigente, vindo a afirmar-se como marcos cinematográficos essenciais tanto para o património artístico e cultural como para a investigação.
L'Histoire de la naissance du cinéma mondial est directement liée à l'histoire de certains cinéastes qui défendirent des causes, moyennant un langage cinématographique propre, à travers leurs formes d'expression dans l'art du réel. Au service d'une idée et de bonnes intentions, ils se sont penchés sur l'image de l'homme en tant qu'objet central du septième art, en montrant la vie comme elle est, comme elle peut être et comme elle devrait être. Tous les films dont je parle ici font campagne, en annonçant des intentions. Le point de vue de l'information et de la propagande dans le cinéma des années 1920/30 est difficile à définir. Il existe, néanmoins, des oeuvres qui nous font voir, agir et comprendre. Certaines de ces oeuvres ont provoqué un choc esthétique et intellectuel dans la pensée contemporaine en vigueur, en s'étant affirmées comme des références cinématographiques essentielles aussi bien au niveau du patrimoine artistique et culturel, qu'au niveau de la recherche.
The history of the birth of world cinema is directly linked to the story of certain filmmakers who defended causes using their own specific cinematographic language, and through their manner of expressing ideas in the art of the real. After an idea and with good intentions, they examined the image of man as the central object of the seventh art, showing life as it is, how it could be and how it should be. All the films I speak of here make a campaign, announcing their intentions. The standpoint of information and propaganda in the cinema of the 1920s/30s is difficult to define, although there are works that make us see, act and understand. Some of these works had a serious aesthetic and intellectual impact on the contemporary thought of the time, and would become essential cinematographic milestones in our artistic and cultural heritage, as well as becoming objects of research.
