Abstract

Edvard Munch (1863-1944) destacou-se como um dos percursores da pintura moderna. Além de pintor e gravador, Munch teve incursões na fotografia e no teatro, nomeadamente na concepção de cenografias, cartazes e figurinos. Imbuído de um espírito inquieto, a sua obra recria o real, numa vivência atribulada de uma época histórica e artística intensa e de grandes transformações. Como o próprio observou. «A arte é a compulsão do homem para a cristalização (...) A natureza não é apenas o que o olho pode ver.

Edvard Munch (1863-1944) est connu comme un des précurseurs de la peinture moderne. Il fut peintre et graveur et fit des incursions dans le domaine de la photographie et du théâtre notamment dans la conception de scénographies, panneaux et figurines. Imbu d'un esprit inquiet, son oeuvre recrée le réel, à travers le Vécu agité d'une époque historique et artistique intense et de grandes transformations. Comme lui-même l'a observé: «L'art est la compulsion de homme vers la cristallisation. (...) La nature n' est pas seulement ce que l'oeil peut voir.

Edvard Munch (1863-1944) stood out as one of the forerunners of modern painting. As well as being a painter and engraver, Munch experimented with photography and the theatre, designing scenarios, posters and models. Imbued with a restless spirit, his work recreates the real, a troubled existence in a historical and artistic age of intensity and great transformations. As he himself observed: ''Art is man's urge to crystallise. (...) Nature is not only what the eye can see."
