Biografia, processo e contexto: uma revisitação de Egas Moniz

Abstract

O recurso ao género biográfico e a sua articulação com análises de contexto, produz objectos históricos que acrescentam conhecimentos tanto da matéria e personagens estudadas como das estratégias e perspectivas dos respectivos autores. A publicação de Egas Moniz, - uma biografia, cuja tessitura se inscreve na disputa de sentidos que têm sido atribuídos aos desempenhos político, cultural e científico do biografado, suscita uma reflexão acerca do que de semelhante foi publicado nas duas últimas décadas, comparando os tipos de fragmentação biográfica operados e as razões expostas para decidir acerca do mérito do autor de A Vida Sexual, salientando o papel desempenhado por gentes e instituições com vista a garantir a sobrevivência e a promoção da figura histórica.

La publication d’Egas Moniz, une biographie dont la tessiture s’inscrit dans la dispute de sens qui ont été attribués aux rôles politique, culturel et scientifique du biographé, suscite une réflexion à propos de ce qui de semblable a été publié dans les dernières décennies, en comparant les types de fragmentation biographique opérés et les raisons donnés pour décider du mérite de l’auteur de A Vida Sexual, soulignant le rôle joué par individus et institutions a fin de garantir la survie et la promotion de cette figure historique.

The use of biographies and their combination with context analyses produces historical objects which add knowledge both of the study object and subjects, as well as of the strategies and the views of the relevant authors. The publication Egas Moniz, - uma biografia, which is about the discussions on the meanings of the political, cultural and scientific performances of the biographee, reflects on similar publications in the last two decades, comparing types of biographical fragmentation and the grounds for deciding on the merit of the author of A Vida Sexual, while underlining the role of people and institutions to ensure the survival and promotion of this historical figure.
