A grande refeição: metáforas alimentares na descrição do transcendente religioso na cultura ocidental

Abstract

Since they became self-conscious, human beings have manufactured solutions to fill the spaces of invisibility associated to questions whose answers the reality felt by the senses could not give. Through its diverse forms, religion provides a solution to know or to interpret what humans do not see and which they reenact through mythic narratives. Current analysis investigates some of the axial narratives of Western culture on original and eschatological transcendence within the aspect of food metaphors and symbolism. Can the sections related to transcendence be represented as parts and agents of a big meal?

Desde que se tornou um ser autoconsciente, o homem criou soluções que lhe permitiram preencher os espaços de invisibilidade associados às interrogações para as quais a realidade captada pelos sentidos não conferiam resposta. A religião, nas suas múltiplas formas, fornece uma solução para saber, ou interpretar, o que não se vê, recorrendo às narrativas míticas. Nesta participação, procuraremos analisar algumas das narrativas axiais da cultura ocidental acerca do transcendente original e do transcendente escatológico, à luz da metafórica e da simbologia alimentar. Podem as conceções relativas ao transcendente ser representadas enquanto partes e agentes de uma grande refeição?
