dc.description.abstractIn this text we intend to study the food given to patients admitted to the hospital of Pombal Misericórdia, in the second half of the nineteenth century and the first decade of the following century, a period in which hundreds of individuals were admitted into this space. Through the institution’s records, efforts will be made to analyze the food consumed by the sick, comparing the reality of the establishment in question with similar spaces of the past, Portuguese and foreign. On the other hand, in addition to aspects like preparing meals, kitchen utensils and tableware, it is worth trying to understand the strategies of Misericórdia, concerning this matter and, finally, attempt to evaluate the real importance of diet for healing or improving the hospitalized ones.eng
dc.description.abstractNo presente texto pretende estudar-se a alimentação ministrada aos doentes internados no hospital da Misericórdia de Pombal, na segunda metade do século XIX e primeira década da centúria seguinte, período em que foram admitidos nesse espaço centenas de indivíduos. Através dos registos da instituição, procurar-se-á analisar os alimentos consumidos pelos enfermos, comparando a realidade do estabelecimento em apreço com espaços congéneres do passado, portugueses e estrangeiros. Por outro lado, além de aspectos ligados à confecção das refeições, à bateria de cozinha e ao serviço de mesa, importará tentar compreender as estratégias da irmandade relativas a esta matéria e, por último, tentar avaliar a real importância da dieta alimentar para a cura ou melhoria dos internados.por
