Abstract

Having inspired a great number of artistic masterpieces and vivid descriptions of everyday conflict, the First World War inspired some musical pieces. The “war pages” from 14-18 were of a more elegiac character than the triumphalist propaganda of the symphonic works of the Second World War, marking a stylistic change in some of the composers of the first decades of the twentieth century (whether or not participating in the conflict).

Tendo inspirado muitas composições artísticas e suscitado a redação memorialista do quotidiano do conflito, a Grande Guerra foi objeto de algumas traduções musicais. Não havendo, regra geral, comungado do triunfalismo propagandístico das obras sinfónicas da Segunda Guerra Mundial, as páginas de guerra de 14-18 revestiram-se de um carácter mais elegíaco, assinalando uma mudança estilística em alguns compositores das primeiras décadas do século XX (participantes ou não no conflito).
