A Simbólica do Gosto no Escadório dos Sentidos do Bom Jesus do Monte – Braga

Abstract

The Stairway of the Senses stands as one of the most important elements of the Bom Jesus do Monte. Its construction in the midst of a monumental Via Crucis is a puzzling phenomenon, which by itself needs to be understood. However, the symbolism of this structure remains largely unexplored. In this study we will focus our approach in the examination of the signs displayed at the Terrace of the Taste aiming to understand its symbolic message in the broader context of the Via Crucis of the Bom Jesus do Monte.

O Escadório dos Sentidos constitui um dos elementos mais importantes do Bom Jesus do Monte. A sua construção no seio de uma Via Crucis monumental constitui um fenómeno intrigante que, por si só, necessita de ser clarificado. Apesar disso, o simbolismo dessa estrutura tem permanecido praticamente inexplorado. Neste estudo iremos centrar-nos no exame dos signos dispostos no Patamar do Gosto com o intuito de compreender o seu simbolismo no contexto geral da Via Crucis do Bom Jesus do Monte.
