Abstract: Numa Boudet (1827-1897), author of thoughts and poems, lives and dies in Castelsagrat (Tarn-et-Garonne). Accidentally lame in youth, he revolts against Fate and profess many years atheism. But afterwards, he returns to spiritualism (more precisely, to catholicism). According to him, the desire attests our aspiration towards the Absolute; through the Nature, he discovers God; whence, stern ethics of love and contemplation, reconcilied with hope and joy.
