Verbos modais alemães da perspetiva de alunos portugueses

Abstract

Parte-se de uma descrição dos verbos modais alemães müssen e sollen que tem em conta a complexidade das informações e exemplos disponíveis em gramáticas de referência e dicionários, mas que é organizada considerando a perspetiva de alunos portugueses e a expressão dos significados modais relevantes na sua língua materna. Passa-se então à análise do modo como o significado de müssen e sollen é apresentado em alguns manuais de ensino da língua no que respeita à sua clareza e coerência para um público-alvo constituído por alunos portugueses. A análise revela um contraste entre a necessidade de explicações e sistematizações simples e a diversidade e complexidade dos usos concretos de sollen e müssen que surgem em textos e situações comunicativas. Chama-se a atenção para a necessidade de um equilíbrio que deve passar por uma sistematização progressiva e recapitulativa dos aspetos que surgem em diferentes momentos e contextos comunicativos e em diferentes níveis.

The German modal verbs müssen and sollen are first described taking into account the complex information and examples provided by grammars and dictionaries, but also the perspective of Portuguese students who learn German, more specifically the way relevant modal meanings are conveyed in their native language. This description is the basis for an analysis of the way müssen and sollen are presented in some German textbooks, focussing on the clarity and coherence of this presentation from the perspective of portuguese learners. The analysis shows a contrast between the need for simple explanations and systematization of verb meanings on one hand and the diversity and complexity of concrete usage in texts and communicative situations on the other. A necessary balance between these opposite tendencies envolves progressive systematization which resumes meanings and uses dealt with at different learning moments and levels and in different communicative contexts.
