CLIL: a aprendizagem integrada de Inglês e Ciências Naturais no contexto educativo atual: possibilidades e limitações

Abstract

Although the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology is highly valued by the European community it is rarely promoted in Portuguese schools. However in a demanding social, cultural and professional context, it is essential to deploy pedagogical practices in English language teaching that respond to the needs of the competitive society we live in. This study focuses on the implementation of the CLIL methodology by combining the teaching of English as Foreign Language with the Natural Sciences. The goals are twofold: to understand the implications of applying this methodology on the organization of the school itself and to monitor the students’ perceptions regarding a different learning experience. The results indicate that the potential of CLIL in English learning deserves further investment from the educational community in the implementation of this methodology.

A metodologia CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), embora valorizada pela comunidade europeia, é pouco promovida nas escolas portuguesas. Num contexto social, cultural e profissional extremamente exigente, contudo, revela-se prioritário que as práticas pedagógicas utilizadas no ensino do Inglês sejam capazes de ir ao encontro das necessidades de hoje. Este estudo centra-se na implementação da metodologia CLIL, associando a aprendizagem de Inglês (Língua Estrangeira) e de Ciências Naturais, na tentativa de perceber as implicações que a aplicação desta metodologia comporta ao nível das condições organizacionais da própria escola, bem como monitorizar as perceções dos/ as alunos/as perante uma experiência de ensino diferente. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam que as potencialidades da metodologia CLIL na aprendizagem de Inglês merecem um maior investimento da comunidade educativa na implementação da mesma.
